Reflection: 7th Grade

When I first arrived in august I expected huge piles of homework and endless worksheets. At first it was nerve raking. And I did make a few mistakes. But I soon realized I had been prepared. And the seventh grade wasn’t as bad as it once seemed. By October, my life was getting better by the the day. I had found a way to juggle my extracurricular activities and my work. School encouraged me to try nephew things and helped me discover my love for volleyball and music!

This year thought me to separate social and school (work first of course), manage homework and studing, and find which electives suit me. I look back at the year with pride in my accomplishments. If I had to do it over again I wouldn’t change a thing (except that one time I lost my homework…bad job on my part). My advice to next years seventh graders is use this as an opportunity to find what you love and what classes you want to take. If u aren’t careful you just might have a good time. Good luck!

Leadership

Leadership requires intelligence, kindness, and a hard working attitude. Leaders are people who set a good example and try their best every time. A leader can’t be lazy and golf off. That doesn’t mean they can’t be fun. They just have to know when it’s time so sit down and get some work done. They have to lead the way with a goal in mind.

Kindness is an important characteristic in a leader because it allows a bond to form between the leader and the people their leading. If a leader does make an effort to connect with their group than they aren’t really doing their job. I hope to one day be a great leader myself.

Love

Love is a spark that lives inside you. The more you try to stop it the more it grows. When you try to dim it’s light it burns brighter than before. The more you resist its warmth the hotter it becomes. Love, love deceives you. It blinds from the truth. If you try to shut it out, You try to cool it down, then it only grows brighter and burns hotter like the sun.

But love is also beauty. Love is forgiving and kind. Love is pure happiness that never leaves your side. Love is like the sun shine. Warm and bright. Love wraps you in its arms and holds you nice and tight. And though love can bring sadness and hardship and tears. Love also brings you laughter. To you and to your peers.

A Poem I Love

I have always thought of Robert Frost as an amazing poet and as a writer I find his work inspirational. Even as a kid his work left me in awe. At my house, while flipping through a book of his poems, I found one in particular that caught my eye. I wanted to share this writer with you, because of the connection his writing has to me and my child hood. But I wanted to share this particular poem with you, because I feel like I can relate my feelings to it.

Fire and Ice
by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Media and Memory

When I was little I had a horse back riding accident. My family and friends brought me balloons, flowers, and toys. But my favorite gift was a soft, fluffy bear. The minute I saw him my heart stopped, and his big brown eyes engulfed me. I knew his name must be Stuffy (don’t judge me I was six). When I played with him I could be anything: a pirate, a queen, or Alice in Wonderland. That bear has been my best friend since that day forward. He helped me through hard choices, bad days, and lifted me up when I fell down.

Expository: My City

Bats dash out from under the bridge. Funnels and funnels of them circling above the water. Thousands and thousands of them fly above my head. It’s amazing to watch as they dart to catch their midnight snacks. This is one of the many reasons my city, Austin Texas, is the best.

My city is known for its talented musicians. You can’t even walk down the street without finding someone playing or listening to music. Every year we have ACL, our music festival. People come from all over to hear our music. At ACL you can find every type of music. Whether you like pop or country. My city can show you a goodtime.

Another way my city is the best, is that everyone belongs. Everyone has somewhere they fit in just right. In Austin you can be whatever you want. And people will line up to show you the way. Every where you turn is something different or new. When I moved here, everyone let me in with open arms and I felt more at home than ever before.

Austin is absolutely the best place to be, especially when your looking for something a little “different”. Austin is the perfect place to make your mark on the world. Whether your looking for a fresh start, great music, or a goodtime. What makes your city great?

Student Blogging Challenge: It’s a Small World

*from an ants perspective*

Huge, thin trees cover the land. The say the trees cover the whole world. The huge green trees that rise ominously over us. No one has ever dared climb the trees. The nurturers teach us, as young, that beyond the trees lies a creature. Big and dark. And that if he sees you, he releases oceans and oceans of cold clear venom that wipes out everything it touches. It would destroy The Hive in one terrible sweep. So we stay on the ground. Feed the old, nurture the young, and protect the queen. And silently wonder. Like the generations before us.

But if you had a chance, to see a whole world never seen by anyone, wouldn’t u want just a glimpse? So everyday I wander from The Hive. And I find the tallest tree in the forest, and I slowly creep up the stalk. My breathing slows as I climb. My legs prickle at the coolness of the wind. And everyday I climb a little farther. And everyday my curiosity heightens. But as I reach the top, I see how wrong we were. The world is so much bigger than the trees, the ground, and The Hive. In fact I can see four more Hives just a little ways away.

Then I see it, the Hive of the monster rises before me. It’s big and strange. I know I should be hiding but the smell coming from it is too satisfying. I don’t see any warriors guarding the entrance. Maybe just a peek. I’d scurry in and out before the monster could see me. He wouldn’t have time find his poison before I’m gone. So I reached my legs out to the crack in the wall and stumbled in.

My Favorite Song of the Week Lyrics

Pompeii
By: Bastille
*provided by lyricsfreak.com*

I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settles around us

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
If you close your eyes

Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?

How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

Rain

A life without lemons lacks lemonade. A world without rain lacks rainbows. A day without sad could never have glad. And without glad, what we’d do, no one knows. That’s why we allow the rain to rain as it pleases, because the rain brings rainbows, right after it leaves us.

Expository Writing

Topic: explain why gossiping is wrong

Would you want people to talk about you behind your back? If you have to whisper – so no one can hear – is it worth saying? Do you think its ok to tell someone else’s secrets – when you promised you wouldn’t – because you know your friend will think its funny?Gossiping and bulling are both the same thing: mean, upsetting, and for no reason.
Ever heard the saying “You can’t judge a book by its cover,”? Well gossiping is judging someone from what hear from someone else, instead of from that persons actions. I once knew a girl that spread a rumor about one of my friends. All of a sudden – without doing anything wrong – all her friends didn’t like her anymore. No one even bothered to ask if it was true. That hardly seems fair. And is it really worth it?
Furthermore gossiping is a way to make someone feel better about themselves by tearing someone else down. Really all it does is tear you down. When you jump – and you reach that tippy top point – you feel amazing, but then you start to fall. And the feeling of flying just whisks away. Well that’s a lot like gossiping…your lifted up by pride…and then pulled right back down. Is it really worth it?
It’s all up to you. Just make sure you would be ok if someone told your secrets. Gossiping may make you feel cool at the time, but the person you’re talking about doesn’t think its cool. And that’s why gossiping is wrong.
